Missouri 811 is dedicated to ensuring that the locate request system is working as smoothly as possible for all stakeholders involved in the public utility locate process. With over one million locate requests expected each year, it is imperative to continually evaluate the process and look for inefficiencies without sacrificing safety. One immediate opportunity is the cancellation of unnecessary locate requests. If a locate request is no longer needed, it should be cancelled to free up resources that can be better utilized elsewhere.
Excavators, utility companies, and locators play an important role in this process. Cancellation requests can be submitted for any ticket that is no longer needed.
Requesting a cancellation is quick and easy!
Access your Locator Tickets page – This is where you will find a list of all your tickets. Click on the ticket number for the one you’d like to request a cancellation.
Request Cancellation – At the top of the ticket, you’ll see the ‘Request Cancel’ button. Click this button to initiate the cancellation request.
Confirm your Request – A pop-up will appear that shows a summary of the email that will be sent to the excavator. To confirm your cancellation request and send the email to the excavator, click ‘Submit’.
Await the Response – The excavator will receive an email with a link that asks them to Accept or Reject the cancellation request.
Cancellation Confirmation – If the excavator accepts the cancellation request, you will be notified that the ticket has been cancelled. You will now see the ‘Cancelled’ hand icon next to the ticket number on your Locator Tickets page.
