More Than a Meeting: Why the Missouri 811 Annual Membership Meeting Matters

Join Missouri 811's Annual Membership Meeting on April 23, 2026, to shape the future of damage prevention and engage with industry leaders at the workshop.

For years, the Missouri 811 Annual Membership Meeting was something that simply existed. It was announced but often overlooked.

This year, that changes.

Missouri 811 is redefining what it means to be a member organization, and the 2026 Annual Membership Meeting is a key step forward in that transformation.

A New Approach to Engagement

For the first time, the Annual Membership Meeting is being held alongside the Missouri 811 Excavator and Utility Training Workshop at the Wyndham Executive Center in Columbia.

This is more than a scheduling change. It is a strategic effort to increase participation and make the meeting more accessible to those already attending the workshop.

However, it is important to note that the Annual Membership Meeting is exclusively for Missouri 811 members.

By aligning the meeting with the workshop, Missouri 811 hopes to encourage more members to attend, engage, and take an active role in shaping the future of the organization.

Who Is a Missouri 811 Member

Missouri 811 members are primarily utility operators and facility owners who have underground infrastructure that must be protected during excavation.

This includes organizations that own or operate buried facilities such as:

    • Electric utilities
    • Natural gas providers
    • Telecommunications companies
    • Water and sewer utilities
    • Municipal and public works departments
    • Pipeline operators and other underground facility owners

If your organization owns or operates underground lines or infrastructure in Missouri, you are eligible and expected to be a member of Missouri 811.

Membership ensures that when an excavation request is made, your facilities are notified so they can be properly marked and protected. This is a critical part of preventing damages, protecting public safety, and maintaining service reliability.

Why the Annual Membership Meeting Matters

The Annual Membership Meeting is more than an update. It is your opportunity as a member to participate in the direction of damage prevention in Missouri.

During the meeting, attendees will:

    • Hear the Annual Report from Executive Director Randy Norden
    • Review of the organization’s financial performance
    • Participate in the election of 2026 to 2027 Board Members

This is where transparency, leadership, and member involvement come together.

Missouri 811 as the Hub of Damage Prevention

Missouri 811 is not just a notification system. It is actively evolving into the central hub of damage prevention across the state.

That vision is supported by real progress.

In 2025, Missouri 811 achieved:

    • Successful law changes, including the 21 Day Ticket life and the Renewal Reminder Tool
    • Creation of the Project Coordination Tool to better manage complex excavation projects
    • Improvements to the ticketing system, making it more readable and easier to use
    • A 4 percent reduction in damages while managing a 5 percent increase in ticket volume
    • More proactive Damage Prevention staff equipped with better tools
    • Direct support for utilities through the development of Damage Prevention Programs
    • Increased utility engagement in organizational governance
    • Improved efficiency and service across the organization
    • No increase in the utility notification fee, which remains at $1.35
    • Stronger industry partnerships and policy engagement

These accomplishments reflect a clear commitment to safety, service, and continuous improvement.

Building a True Membership Experience

This meeting represents a larger shift in how Missouri 811 serves its members.

The goal is to move away from the perception of participation as an obligation and toward a true membership experience built on value and engagement.

Missouri 811 is focused on:

    • Delivering strong customer service
    • Operating with integrity
    • Driving innovation
    • Creating solutions that benefit all stakeholders

Looking ahead, this vision may also include recognizing excellence across the industry through awards and expanded member engagement opportunities.

Be Part of What’s Next

The Missouri 811 Annual Membership Meeting is not just another item on the calendar.

It is an opportunity to stay informed, get involved, and help shape the future of damage prevention in Missouri.

If your organization is a Missouri 811 member, your participation matters.
